• We’d love to invite you to Breaking Bread.

    Breaking Bread is a dinner, but not just a dinner.

    It’s a simple idea: bring people who may never otherwise meet to the same table, share agreat meal, and see what happens when we make time to talk, listen and connect.

    The idea comes from Leon Aarts, a top chef, whose love of food began in a large,close-knit family where meals were at the heart of everything. It was during his time volunteering in the infamous ‘Jungle’ camp in Calais, France, that Leon experienced first-hand the extraordinary power of sharing a meal with others.

    Breaking Bread has grown out of that experience and a belief that sitting down together can changethings. When we share food, stories, and conversation, we can discover what connects us, understand different perspectives, and perhaps see someone or something a little differently.

    So, we’re inviting you to take a seat at the table.

    You’ll meet people you may never otherwise have met, enjoy a meal created by Leon and share asmuch or as little as you feel comfortable with. There are no speeches, no agendas and no expectation to have the answers.

    Just good food, good conversation and an open table.

    Your place is already paid for.

    Breaking Bread works on a simple pay-it-forward principle. You can come and enjoy the experiencefreely. At the end of the meal, we’ll invite you to make a voluntary contribution. Whatever you choose
    to give will help make the next Breaking Bread dinner possible for someone else.

    In this way, one table creates the next, and the next brings more people together who might neverotherwise have crossed paths.

    Good things happen when we sit down together.

  • It was so much more than a meal. Lovely warmth and a sense of connection around the tables, and we really enjoyed the conversations, sharing stories and hearing about other people’s experiences. It gave us all a chance to reflect on the kindness, connections and people who have shaped our lives.

  • About Leon

    An incredible life journey through food, from becoming a dad, chef and entrepreneur to founding 3 charities, nowadays I call myself a plantbased philanthropist because;

    Philanthropy simply means the Love of Humankind

    The love of humanity and humankind is what been with me since I was born, from the love of my parents, the early memory of huge family dinners and to working with refugees and during Covid. The actions I have taken in my life are a living proof of that! I live according to Ghandi's quote:

    My Life is my Message

    I am passionate about planetary health for every human being and our planet, food insecurity and creating greater connection and more understanding for all of us. I have a proven track record at scaling projects fast and have an innate ability to increase impact in building a more equitable and sustainable food systems.
